I
mustn't grumble ... but I'd like to.
The
Betawi (indigenous Jakarta people) family opposite are holding a very special party today. Their son, Arifin aged 9, had his foreskin lopped off in October and the party is to celebrate his becoming a fully fledged Muslim.
This is not the cause of my mutterings though; my displeasure, which I can only air here as we've known Abbas and his family for the 17 years we've lived here, is that Betawi parties inevitably involve a
dangdut band performing all day long. The PA is beamed straight into our house.
This would please the
lower and lower-middle classes and Wahab -
I am thaiboy I find that Dangdut is very best melody. I love it so much - and you, if you're interested, can listen to
133 songs here.
Don't sweat it
We may have to make an appearance to prove we're good neighbours, but I wouldn't want to stay long; only soft drinks will be served, and I will have a mental blockage if
Pocari Sweat is one of them. This can only be of interest to
its fans -
I love Pocari Sweat it is by far the best drink I have ever had. I had 6 liters in 1 day once - and
western
collectors of soda pop cans.
