  It's up to you, lah!

Wow, Indonesian Blog of 2004.

Unaccustomed as I am to mouthing clichés, I'd like to thank Simon who co-ordinated the Asia Blog Awards this year, and all of you who voted for Jakartass and the other nominated blogs from Indonesia.

Votes

188 Jakartass
165 Macam-Macam
117 The Fool has Landed
93 Bali Blog
75 Expiration Date
52 Indo Ian
43 Batik Baby
23 Deliciously Disgusting

Beyond Wallacia is a blog which didn't feature in the 'contest'. Geoffrey writes in the same reportage vein as Macam-Macam and, if he can avoid linking so much to the Jakarta Post which rapidly recycles its URLs, will be an interesting read this year for those of you who don't have access to the local printed media,.

Congratulations too to Brandon for his Java Jive photoblog. It didn't win but with some emotive writing now accompanying his superb pictures, this encapsulates for me many of the reasons why I love living here.

However, the most deserving winner was a blog started after nominations closed. I dedicate this award to Enda Nasution who set up Indonesia Help in the wake of the Sumatran Tsunami.

This is the power of the blogosphere; an altruistic yet practical means of communication. Opinions and facts - they all matter. I hope that this time next year, here in Indonesia there will be a much wider communality of interests working together for the common good.

This will be true reformasi.

(PS. Email from Peg in the USA: Thanks for the blog, was getting overwhelmed by the world but have decided to join you in being an unashamed optimist.)

Jakartass will shortly be moving off Blogger. The theory is that I'll have a bit more freedom with layout and stuff, although being an ignoramus with regards to web design, it may yet take some time.

I did think I could start afresh with a new name; after all, having been voted Indonesian Blog of 2004, what other pinnacles are there? As folk here tend to say when it's time to make a decision, it's up to you, lah.
