On the surface ....are all round good eggs.
After all, Abdurizal Bakrie is currently SBY's Minister of Welfare.
However, Aburizal Bakrie and his family are the tops having seen their net worth blow out to $5.4 billion this year, up from
a mere $1.2 billion in 2006 when they were sixth on Forbes Asia's Indonesia rich list.
There may be
questions about the accuracy of these figures, but apparently most of their wealth came from
surging stock prices in Bakrie Group's largest holding, coal producer Bumi Resources - "Asia's Fastest and the World's Fastest Growing Coal Company".
One shouldn't begrudge them their good fortune, a mere vagary of the world's stock exchanges. They say their hearts are in the right places.
But on the surface things don't actually look that good.
My last post was about perceptions of pornography. I don't believe it's to do with images of naked ladies or men. What is truly obscene is
the notion that one family should through negligence deprive some 5,000 families of their homes and livelihoods, should then refuse to pay out the compensation which the President of the country has ordered should be paid, and continue to garner material wealth from the resources of the country they purport to serve.
All right for some, innit.
